Chapter 104: Wake Her… Or I Will
Chapter 104: Wake Her… Or I Will
You can only wake up a person who is sleeping; It is impossible to wake up a person who is pretending to be asleep.
Milo wasn’t sleeping, nor was she pretending to be asleep.
If she was awake, she would already be looking for Zane. She wasn’t doing that which only meant she was unconscious.
Her leg was bleeding, she was already weak and ill. Kairon had thrown her inside the Cathedral like a ragdoll. If not for her chest moving up and down, it was easy to assume she was already dead.
The Emberlord Coin sat in front of her and Zane stood behind the Emberlord.
He still had his anger but the safety of Milo was the priority and Zane was willing to let go of everything as long as his sister was safe.
So he stayed silent behind the Emberlord.
But it seemed that the Emberlord was also running out of patience as he didn’t bother with the open doors of the Cathedral and also demanded silence from everyone present.
Varikh and Xavier had stopped fighting and Tesla made sure Xavier made no noise.
When the silence was loud enough to echo malice, the Emberlord said:
"Zane Atlas, here’s what I will do."
Everyone focused.
"I will call your sister one last time. And if she doesn’t wake up..."
The Emberlord looked over his shoulder at Zane.
"I am afraid I have many means to wreck dreams to awaken anyone from their deepest slumber. Just pray I don’t have to use one of them today."
Zane gulped.
No genius was needed to know that each word of the Emberlord was true.
But Zane was sure that Milo wouldn’t wake up.
"She is not sleeping, Emberlord. She is unconscious. That bastard threw her and hurt her. She is a child. She fainted. She needs healing."
Zane shared the reasons and it took everything for him to stop himself from going towards Milo ignoring the trial.
The Emberlord stared at Zane and then turned his head at Milo again.
"Let me be the judge of that."
The Emberlord reached out his left hand and touched Milo’s head.
Milo was lying face first on the carpet, her face wasn’t visible.
Coin gently placed his hand on Milo’s head, touching her wet white hair.
He frowned.
"Why is her hair wet? She also seems to have a cold. What did you do with her, Kairon?"
Kairon flinched.
Zane glared at the Enforcer.
"I.. I did nothing. I only hurt her leg. She was already wet when I went inside the room. I did nothing, sire. Believe me."
Kairon cried for his innocence and he deliberately revealed that he had hurt Milo’s leg. He could handle Zane’s anger but not the wrath of Emberlord if he lied to him.
The Emberlord shook his head and focused on Milo again.
Zane also seemed to believe Kairon as the fear on Kairon’s face was real. He wouldn’t lie.
But then why was Milo drenched and caught a cold?
And also, why did the Emberlord ask that to Kairon? Was he worried about Milo? Or he simply asked that because he didn’t like to touch wet hair?
Zane thought for a second and he even found the probable reason for Milo’s cold. When Zane had left the room, she was in the bathroom. She must have played with water long enough to catch a cold.
But no matter how much he tried, he could not understand the behaviour of the Emberlord.
Coin shouldn’t care what Kairon had done to her. He shouldn’t have asked Kairon about that. He should have simply woke Milo and ignored her cold.
"He is so kind."
"He is worried about that child’s cold."
"Truly a godman."
Zane heard the whispers of the audience and that’s when the pieces fell on the spot.
A laugh escaped his lips.
Of course. The opinions of public matters.
Zane shook his head.
The Emberlord earned respect by showing worry for Milo.
The people at the top treat the public like fools and the public always make sure they never stop treating them like that.
Even if Zane wanted to believe that the Emberlord was really worried about Milo, he couldn’t. His anger won’t allow it.
Nevertheless, Zane had to stop his thoughts as the Emberlord finally made his move.
His left hand was on Milo’s head and he gave a nudge on it.
He didn’t call her yet. He only used movement.
But he received no reaction so he used the next method.
He leaned towards Milo’s ears and opened his mouth.
"Milena Atlas. Wake Up."
Coin’s heavy voice landed in extreme silence. Even the dead would wake up if they were called.
Unfortunately, Milo wasn’t dead.
Zane hoped with all his life that Milo woke up as he didn’t want the Emberlord to use his means to wake her up.
Coin waited for a few minutes after calling her and when he received really no reaction, he looked over his shoulder again.
Both men locked eyes with each other and the Emberlord simply sighed.
"I already said I will call only once. And that ’once’ I already did."
Zane’s finger curled inward.
"I am afraid I have to invade her dreams to snatch her sleep."
The Emberlord turned his head back at Milo but before he could do something.
"Wait." Zane shouted.
Coin stopped.
He looked behind and Zane wasted no time.
"Let me call her. She will wake up when I do that."
The Emberlord remained silent.
Zane fidgeted with his fingers.
He needed confirmation.
"I will call from here only. I will not go near her. Please let me call her before you do something."
Zane proposed again and this time he even used please. He knew people often agreed when someone lower than them asked for permission in a lowly way.
Even if Coin was an Emberlord, he was also a Human. He would not waste the chance to appear superior in front of someone who was rebelling against him the whole time.
Therefore...
"Fine. Call her but only once. After that, I will take the matter in my hands. And when I take matters in my hands..."
The Emberlord raised his free right hand and from the stage...
WHOOSH!
The scythe came swinging and landed on the Emberlord’s hand.
"The matter resolves itself."
